Recovery My Way
In my own recovery, one of the things that helped me most at the beginning was listening to other people’s stories. Hearing people speak honestly about addiction, recovery, relapse, and change helped me recognise parts of myself and showed me that things could get better, even when I believed change was impossible.
Recovery My Way was created from that idea. The project explores the different realities of recovery through portraiture and recorded interviews, giving people the space to share their experiences in their own words.
At the centre of the project is the understanding that there is no single “right” way to recover. What works for one person may not work for another, and just because one approach has not worked for somebody does not mean there is not another path that might.
Through these stories, the project aims to create understanding, challenge stigma surrounding addiction and mental health, and hopefully allow people to see something of themselves within the experiences being shared. Ultimately, the hope is that someone listening to these stories may hear something that connects with them, inspires them, or helps them find a way forward in their own recovery.
